Letter to Parents 14th February 2020
Friday 14th February 2020
Dear Parents/Carers,
I am writing to update you on two matters; the first is in relation to a situation that developed in school this morning, and the second relates to internal changes to the school day next term.
Before school started this morning, we had an unfortunate incident on our site, where a student was involved in an altercation with another student, and used a hair comb to injure the student, resulting in that student needing to go to hospital. The incident was dealt with quickly and efficiently by school staff.
We have held assemblies today with all year groups. These were already planned, but it gave me the opportunity to talk about this incident with the children and to remind students of the importance of following our school behaviour policy.
All types of combs are prohibited items at City Academy, as in other schools. This is a good opportunity to remind students and parents that they are not allowed to be brought into school, and will be confiscated if brought in. The other items that are prohibited are cigarettes and any other smoking related material, illegal drugs, alcohol and anything we could deem to be a weapon. These will also be confiscated and
handed over to the Police. If you have any questions of concerns please contact me at school.
I would also like to take this opportunity to tell you about a slight change to the school day, which starts after half term on Monday 24th February and lasts until the end of the school year. There is no change to the start and end time of the day, but in the mornings, students will go into their Learning Family (tutor group), instead of a whole year group meeting. The register will be taken during this time, and it is
absolutely essential that students are in school, on time, in uniform and ready to learn.
Also, at the end of lunchtime, students will go straight into lesson 5, instead of going to learning family. This means lesson 5 will be 20 minutes longer, meaning your child will be receiving more teaching time.
A reminder that we offer all students a free breakfast, which is served in the venue from 7.45am-8.30am and we’d like to encourage students to come and have breakfast with staff and their peers.
Finally from me, thank you for all your support. We hope students have a restful and enjoyable half term, and we look forward to seeing students back on Monday 24th February.
Best wishes
Jon Angell
Principal, City Academy
