Letter to Year 11 Parents

Friday 3rd July 2020

Dear Year 11 Students and Parents/Carers,

I hope you and your family are well in what is still a challenging and difficult time for us all. I am writing to update you on information regarding the Centre Assessment Grading process, Results Day, and how the Academy will offer further guidance moving forward.

Centre Assessment Grades

On 18 March 2020, the Secretary of State announced that the summer 2020 GCSE exams would be cancelled due to school closures due to Covid-19, and that students due to sit the exams would be awarded a grade based on an assessment of the grade they would have been most likely to achieve had exams gone ahead.

After rigorous scrutiny, these ‘Centered Assessed Grades’ were procured from a range of data, assessment evidence and professional judgement. City Academy has completed these assessments and submitted them to the relevant Exam Boards. The next stage of the review process is now done externally and the grades are subject to change and standardisation by the relevant governing bodies. As stated in my previous letter sent in April, this process is confidential and the Academy is unable to discuss or confirm any Center Assessed Grades prior to Results Day on Thursday 20th August.

Results Day Thursday 20th August

Results Day is on Thursday 20th August. We hope to be able to invite you in to school to receive your grades, however, this year’s Results Day may look somewhat different to previous years given the current Covid 19 situation. We will communicate the plan for Results Day in the coming weeks.

Prom

A number of you have asked if we will still have a Prom. We would very much like to hold one but at the moment it’s not possible. We understand your disappointment and would like to try and hold a celebration at some point in the future, we will let you know when we are able to do so.

Further guidance

If you have any questions regarding your pathway and options next year then please do contact myself ([email protected]) or Miss Cook ([email protected]) via email. If you have not yet heard from your college or sixth form regarding your place please let Miss Cook know as soon as possible.

Any Year 11 relevant information and messages will be posted on the school website, letter/text and your school email so please do continue to log in and check for messages regularly. Here are some links which you will find really useful, such as how to create a CV and how to research different career pathways including higher education.
