A taste of Broadway at City Academy brings blockbuster Annie to life

City Academy proudly presented A Taste Of Broadway, a dazzling student production of the beloved musical Annie, which was performed over two exciting nights with a talented double cast of 60 students.
Under the direction of Rebecca Pearce, audiences were treated to two unique performances showcasing both a young and older cast.
Night one featured the younger ensemble, with Malia Bains starring as the spirited orphan Annie and Maudie Farrow as the fierce Miss Hannigan. Night two saw Ramatoilie Laye take on the iconic role of Annie, with Scarlett Clarke portraying the villainous matron. And of course not forgetting Sandy who was played by Olive a real dog.
Based on the hit Broadway musical, Annie tells the story of a young orphan enduring a ‘hard knock life’ under the rule of the ruthless Miss Hannigan.
With only a broken locket and a heart full of hope, Annie sets off to find her parents, only to be taken in by eccentric billionaire Oliver Warbucks.
But trouble brews when Miss Hannigan and her scheming brother Rooster, along with his partner Lily, devise a plot that could change Annie’s future forever.
Students had been rehearsing since September last year, pouring months of dedication, energy, and passion into this vibrant musical, backed by the talents of choreographer Becky Anderton and musical director Joseph Taylor.
Producer and director Rebecca Pearce said: “We are so proud of all our students – this production is a true celebration of their hard work, creativity, and resilience.
“With two incredible casts, audiences witnessed the magic and wonder of theatre.”
