City Academy Bristol (CAB) has become the latest institution in the UK to enhance community safety by installing a lifesaving bleed control kit on its premises.

This critical initiative, launched in partnership with Avon and Somerset Constabulary, HeartSafe UK, and NHS England Southwest, is designed to provide emergency support not only to CAB’s staff and students but also to the wider local community.

Bleed control kits, akin to first aid kits, are specifically equipped to handle traumatic injuries. They include essential tools such as a tourniquet, bandages, and adhesive chest seals, all designed to help control severe bleeding in emergency situations.

To ensure effective use of the kit, four CAB staff members – Veronica Shore, Lucy Ware, Emanuele Lumini, and Lisa Sperring – have undergone comprehensive training.

Donna Stark, Facilities Manager at CAB who led this initiative, said: Our primary aim is to create a safer environment for everyone who steps through our doors and to contribute to the safety of our surrounding community.

“This kit could potentially save lives in the critical moments before emergency services arrive, and we are proud to work with such dedicated partners to make this possible.”

Avon and Somerset police will maintain the kit, ensuring it remains ready for use whenever needed.
