City Academy students shape new theatre project

Students at City Academy recently took part in a series of creative workshops led by facilitators from Made in Bristol, a free training programme run by Bristol Old Vic for emerging young theatre makers.
The workshops engaged Year 7, 8 and 9 students in conversations and creative activities exploring what British identity might mean in 2026.
Developed with young people, for young people, the sessions will help inform and script a new Theatre in Education (TIE) performance that Made in Bristol will tour to schools across the region, including a future performance at City Academy.
Through drama, discussion and collaborative storytelling, students were encouraged to share their perspectives, experiences and ideas about identity, community and the future of Britain.
Beccy Pearce, Teacher of Drama at City Academy, said: “Working with Made in Bristol gave our students a fantastic opportunity to explore important themes through creativity and performance.
“The workshops encouraged thoughtful discussion, built confidence and allowed students to see how their own voices and experiences can shape original theatre.”
