City Academy students shine in Matilda

The highly acclaimed, award-winning musical Matilda was brought to life by the talented students at City Academy in a spectacular production that captivated audiences.

Based on the beloved work by Roald Dahl, the story follows Matilda Wormwood (played by Mila Rak, Year 7, and Bethany Davis-Croshaw, Year 7), a gifted young girl navigating life with her neglectful parents and the formidable Agatha Trunchbull (played by Farley Solano, Year 8, and Akiera Allen, Year 10), the tyrannical headmistress of her school. As Matilda discovers her telekinetic powers, she courageously stands up for her friends and challenges the injustice around her.

Rehearsals began in September, culminating in two outstanding performances that were completely sold out, an achievement that reflects the dedication and hard work of everyone involved.

The production featured a cast and crew of around sixty students from Years 7 to 10. This included not only the performers on stage but also an exceptional backstage team responsible for lighting, sound, and projection, all of whom played a vital role in bringing the show to life.

Rebecca Pearce, Teacher of Drama, said: “This production has been a true celebration of creativity, teamwork, and resilience.

“Our students have shown incredible commitment from the very first rehearsal, and their performances were nothing short of inspiring. I couldn’t be prouder of what they have achieved together.”
