City Academy students visit the BOV to watch The Little Mermaid

Eighteen students from Years 7 and 8 at City Academy had an unforgettable opportunity to visit the Bristol Old Vic (BOV) to experience the brand-new production of The Little Mermaid.

This reimagining of the classic tale featured original songs and lyrics, captivating the audience with its creativity and spectacular sets.

The students described the performance as ‘awe-inspiring’, with many leaving the theatre brimming with excitement and inspiration.

The highlight of the evening was meeting the lead actor, Lianna Cottrill, who delivered a stunning portrayal of the Little Mermaid. For the students, this encounter was even more special as Lianna is a proud former student of City Academy.

She generously took time to meet with the group, share insights about her journey, and sign autographs – a moment many will cherish for years to come.

Rebecca Pearce, drama teacher at City Academy, said: “Seeing our students connect with such an incredible production and meet someone who once attended the same school as them was truly magical.

“Lianna’s journey from City Academy to the Bristol Old Vic stage is a testament to the power of hard work and determination, and it’s incredibly inspiring for our young performers.”
